About Us

The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) is the largest equity derivatives organization in the world.  We provide central counterparty clearing and settlement services for equity options, futures, options on futures, and securities lending transactions.  We serve approximately 115 clearing members and 15 exchanges including CBOE, Nasdaq, and NYSE.

What We Need

OCC is currently implementing what will be our next generation blockchain-based securities lending system in partnership with a New York based firm. This custom solution will digitize and transform how capital market entities interact and process transactions.  We are seeking a technical lead for this strategic project who can create and lead a new team of internal resources and partner with the product provider on all day-to-day technical activities.  Key to success will be a hands-on focus coupled with both formal and informal leadership expertise when partnering with teams across OCC implementing this solution with the broader OCC system capabilities.  The candidate should have an aptitude and interest in distributed ledger/blockchain industry transformational efforts, and the ability to work together with the product owner to formulate a vision.  Strong technical engineering, architecture skills, technical team leadership and mastery in maturing iterative software development methods is core to the role.  The ability to collaborate across multiple teams internal and external to OCC in conjunction with experience effectively executing against multiple priorities are baseline expectations for this role.   The candidate will be a key figure partnering with OCC leadership in the implementation of this state-of-the-art solution.  OCC is responsible for operating within the global financial market infrastructure as a critical service provider to market participants.  OCC places critical emphasis on compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and maintains high standards for information confidentiality, operational integrity, and system availability. The candidate must have experience operating in environments with these requirements.  The role will be directly involved in transforming how OCC and the marketplace clear and settle transactions in the future and the candidate should thrive in a small fast paced, and dynamic entrepreneurial environment.  Strategically, the role is accountable for ensuring that the team can expand functionality and supporting for the system beyond the initial implementation with the vendor.  Notable non-technical competencies include problem solving, timely decision making, a strong bias for delivering results, and communication skills which can span technical and non-technical audiences.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

What You will Do

You will be working alongside experts from Distributed Ledger Software provider and colleagues at OCC who are building OCC’s next generation blockchain-based securities lending system, and paving the future of digital transformation in the capital markets industry by:

  • Collaborating with others to deliver complex projects which may involve multiple systems.

  • Continuously thinking about the next steps while improving yourself and others around you.

  • Developing solutions to complex technical challenges while coding, testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and documenting the systems you develop.

  • Optimizing application performance through analysis, code refactoring, and system tuning.

  • Recommending technologies and tools that improve the efficiency and quality of OCC’s systems and development processes.

  • Help lay out short and long term strategy for DLT/blockchain usage in the firm and industry working together with the product owner and other partners.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Technical and managerial responsibilities for a team of 5-10 associates

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Fluent in functional programming (ideally Scala), object-oriented design, industry best practices, software patterns, and architecture principles.

  • Experience with continuous integration tools and techniques, automating processes, and writing scripts using Python and other languages.

  • Deep understanding of performance issues and multi-threaded development.

  • Web/mobile application development experience.

  • Experience working with the following: Unix/Linux environments, event-driven systems, transaction processing systems, distributed and parallel systems, large software system development, security software development, public-cloud platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience in the capital markets industry.

  • Experience with blockchain, crypto, or defi technologies preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Scala-based software development experience.

  • Web/mobile application development experience.

  • Experience working with four or more of the following: Unix/Linux environments, event-driven systems, transaction processing systems, distributed and parallel systems, large software system development, security software development, public-cloud platforms.

  • Deep understanding of performance issues and multi-threaded development.

  • Experience with continuous integration tools and techniques, automating processes, and writing scripts using Python and other languages.

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
