OCC Cleared Contract Volume Increased Two Percent in April

  • Securities Lending Activity Up 46 Percent in April and 44 Percent Year-to-Date
  • ETF Options Volume Up 13 Percent from 2015

OCC, the world's largest equity derivatives clearing organization, announced today that cleared contract volume in April was 339,522,257 contracts, up two percent from April 2015 monthly volume of 331,552,965 contracts. Average daily volume at OCC is up five percent in 2016 with 17,123,650 contracts. OCC's stock loan program reported strong volume numbers in April with year-to-date activity up 44 percent.

Options: Exchange-listed options volume reached 331,842,870 contracts in April, a one percent increase from April 2015. Year-to-date average daily options volume is up four percent from 2015 with 16,774,405 contracts.

Equity options volume last month was 300,607,713 contracts, a slight increase of 0.09 percent from April 2015. This includes cleared ETF options volume of 124,959,215 contracts last month, a 13 percent increase over April 2015 volume of 110,418,502 contracts. Index options volume in April was up 15 percent with 31,235,157 contracts.

Futures: Cleared futures volume at OCC in April was 7,679,387 contracts, a 94 percent increase from April 2015. OCC's year-to-date average daily cleared futures volume is up 62 percent with 349,245 contracts.

Securities Lending: OCC's securities lending CCP activity in April 2016 was up 46 percent in new loans from April 2015 with 165,042 transactions. Year-to-date stock loan activity is up 44 percent from 2015 with 620,166 new loan transactions. The average daily loan value cleared by OCC in April was $133,859,132,174.
