Associate Principal, Software Engineering DevOps

What You’ll Do

You will play a leading role in a Software Engineering team responsible for developing enterprise DevOps tools and a CI/CD framework to quickly provision pipelines and facilitate development of enterprise applications and fully automate their delivery. 


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The primary duty is to drive the development of tools and frameworks that are targeted specifically at other developers in the enterprise and that provide CI/CD pipelines and automate the processes of building, testing, and deploying application code as well as its underlying infrastructure. Responsibilities include but are not limited to 

  • Writing high-quality code  
  • Ensuring extensive automated test coverage 
  • Documenting the projects 
  • Actively participating in Agile ceremonies and influencing team direction 
  • Assisting in the creation and refinement of stories 
  • Reviewing code to ensure adherence to highest quality standards 
  • Mentoring/coaching junior developers 
  • Presenting and demonstrating concepts/projects to technical and non-technical stakeholders 
  • Addressing problems by troubleshooting, debugging and following-up to ensure resolution 
  • Supporting teammates to ensure timely completion of deliverables and operational excellence 
  • Proactively engaging other teams in cross-team collaboration

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years programming experience 

  • Hands-on experience required: 

  • leading software projects and functioning as SME/point of reference of an engineering team 

  • working in Agile and DevOps cultures 

  • working on automation and process improvement projects 

  • Direct experience as DevOps Engineer considered a plus 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, change-oriented, and demanding IT environment while focusing strongly on business outcomes 

  • Self-starter – takes the initiative to research, learn, and deliver. Anticipates the play. 

  • Team player – listens to teammates, is collaborative and focused on making sure the entire team succeeds. 

  • Thought leader – speaks at software industry conferences/seminars, contributes to open source projects, participates actively in Stack Overflow, has an online presence, publishes articles on the field. 


Technical Skills

  • Must have worked professionally with Python hands-on for no less than 2 years, preferably closer to 5 years 

  • 3+ years hands-on experience with Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins and Terraform (preferably Enterprise) 

  • Experience writing unit and integration tests with frameworks such as pytest and unittest 

  • Working experience with cloud ecosystems, preferably AWS 

  • Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines 

  • Experience using GitHub, Make, Docker Compose, Helm and Artifactory as CI/CD tools desirable 

  • Knowledge of Linux, bash, Java, Splunk, Jira, OWASP Top 10 and ServiceNow a plus 


Education and/or Experience

One of  

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering or similar 

  • Associate’s degree in (or B. Sc. with minor in) the field, or coding bootcamp, plus two additional years of professional software engineering experience  

  • Master’s degree in the field a plus 

Certifications or Licenses

  • Relevant industry certifications are desirable, such as 

  • AWS Solutions Architect or Developer 

  • Python Institute Associate 

  • SAFe DevOps 

  • IEEE CSDP or ICCP CSE 

  • PMI-ACP 

  • and others
