What You'll Do

The Performance Engineer works with other Performance team members to ensure that OCC systems meet specified performance quality standards and agreed upon Service Level Agreements. The  Performance Engineer will utilize industry standard performance testing methods with an emphasis on efficiency, high performance and innovation. This individual will be an experienced contributor in the performance certification process including, performance test planning, performance test data preparation, performance test environment preparation, performance test execution and performance test result reporting to project stakeholders.

Work under general supervision; typically reports to a project leader or manager.  Provide senior level technical expertise on third party tools generally classified as Middleware tools.  Manage day to day activities when called upon.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.

  • Has knowledge of AWS and On-Prem tooling and the ability to design, build, and execute performance testing scripts end to end across disparate technologies.
  • Actively participates in requirement reviews to identify possible performance tuning opportunities at the beginning of the project lifecycle.
  •  Participates and leads performance team on load testing, stress testing, and security vulnerability test cycles.
  • Actively participates in design/technical reviews to identify design flaws that could have a negative impact on new product development. 
  • Author’s performance test planning documentation using structured, model-based techniques to insure completeness and accuracy.  Leads cross team review of this documentation and independently follows up on any feedback received.
  • Conducts performance testing on newly designed or modified applications/systems.  Thoroughly analyzes, tests, and documents software quality performance to ensure new software meets OCC performance quality standards and agreed upon Service Level Agreements.
  • Writes clear and precise defect reports as required for identified performance flaws based on performance testing results. 
  •  Monitors and updates defect reports as needed to ensure timely problem resolution.
  •  Independently follows up with design/development resources regarding defects.  Follows agreed upon SDLC procedures to ensure that all information system products and services meet:  both explicit and implicit quality standards, performance requirements, audit requirements,.
  • Assists Production Support by testing time sensitive defects and providing advice on system functionality as it relates to performance quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Innovative mindset for problem solving skills

  • Experienced in arranging performance test execution cycles, monitor, witness and support the performance test outcomes
  • Experienced in extracting response data and correlation for dynamic data uses
  • Experienced in building a load profiles with ramp up and down
  • Analyze results and publish meaningful, pragmatic performance test metrics and results
  • Abilities to communicate differences between different performance testing scenarios
  • Understanding of CICD tools like Git, Gradle, Jenkins, Artifactory, Harness, Docker and Kubernetes. Testing environments would be a combination of AWS and ON-Prem.
  • Understanding of DevOps automation tools like Terraform, Ansible
  • Demonstrate strong confidence in abilities and knowledge.
  • Ability to work well in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Flexibility to be on call from 5 PM to 7 AM for 3 months per year.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Work with multiple teams cohesively to arrive and good long term solutions.

Technical Skills:

  • Database experience (AWS related Postgres, Arora, etc).
  • Automated Testing Tool experience  (i.e. Load Runner)
  • Experience working in agile engineering environment
  • Programming skills in Java or Python
  • Experienced and strong in Linux shell scripting
  • Experience with JVM, K8S, Splunk, Network monitoring tools in AWS cloud environment
  • Experience in using data formats like YAML, Json, Protobuf and Parquet
  • Scheduling package experience  (i.e. UC4)
  • Analysis Tools (R, Matlab) are a plus
  • Test case management Tools
  • Internet / Web based technologies
  • Network technologies
  • CI/CD tools such as Artifactory, Jenkins, and GIT
  • Cloud native applications, including Terraform experience
  • Technologies used to support microservices
  • Encryption technologies (SSL/TLS, PKI Infrastructure management)
  • Security controls as applied to software technologies.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  •  Requires 5-7 years Performance testing experience working with a structured methodology.
  • At least 5 years hands on Performance test execution in a structured quality environment.
  • At least 5 or more years IT experience
  • Experience in the financial markets industry.
  •  Trading and derivative industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in rigorous data analysis (highly analytical)
  • Requires experience developing performance test cases / scenarios using structured test methods. 
  • Any Performance testing certifications are a plus.

Certificates or Licenses:

  • Cloud Certification a plus
