What You’ll Do

The primary focus of the role is to provide technical design/architecture, and architectural analysis/support for business projects and technology initiatives for the purpose of enabling business capabilities that conform to OCC Enterprise reference architectures/roadmaps.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for management and development of enterprise architecture team members

  • Responsible for the development of the IT Strategy and roadmap

  • Responsible for the development of the overall OCC technology roadmap

  • Responsible for the design and architecture of the full enterprise (business, information, technology layers; may include systems and APIs to meet functional requirements and nonfunctional requirements (quality, security, reliability, scalability (up and out), extensibility, testability, supportability, fault tolerance and disaster recovery)

  • Defines technical solutions for the given initiative that take into account the current state environment, architecture and constraints. Analyzes the viability of the architecture/design to meet the timeline, budget and quality

  • Collaborates with business users, design, development and QA teams to help identify and develop creative solutions for complex technical requirements and processes. Adheres to overall reference architectures

  • Develops architecture artifacts as needed; may include business, application, data, technology layers; application architecture/design document, architecture decision document, product selection criteria and proof of concept document, and other required documents as needed

  • Collaborates with other architect(s) in establishing various application architecture and development related standards, and work with management to enforce their governance

  • Owns and manages architecture governance process

  • Researches and evaluates vendors/technologies to identify appropriate technology for OCC’s strategic direction, including conducting pilot or product selection efforts; prepare written reports of findings and recommend implementation and rollout approaches to the organization

  • Provides critical thinking and technical expertise from ideation to implementation

  • Develops and presents solution alternatives along with recommendations to management

  • Actively works with management to define processes/procedures/job aids when new tools/technologies are introduced

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage a Team


  • Solid experience working as an enterprise architect

  • Experience in architecting/developing systems in a team environment

  • Knowledgeable in all aspects of architecture including business, data, infrastructure, security and application

  • Experience with different architecture/design techniques – object oriented, structured, component based and corresponding tools

  • Knowledge of the governance of architecture and development standards, patterns and best practices

  • Working knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks

  • Experience with a variety of development technologies and application architectures - JEE, distributed and enterprise technology platforms, SOA, Microservices, Hybrid Transaction/Analytical processing

  • Broad knowledge of systems and application development techniques, database systems/structures, technology tools/products, programming languages

  • Experience with program/projects involving complex integration of disparate types of technologies/platforms and data

  • Highly motivated individual with a strong sense of ownership of their work/projects

  • Strong desire and capacity to adapt to new technologies

  • An enquiring mind with the ability to abstract general principles from specifics

  • Ability to work at high technical levels of all system/application development and implementation phases

  • Knowledge of development lifecycle under Agile methodology

  • Highly collaborative – comfortable sharing ideas and asking questions with all levels of staff

  • Demonstrates refined written and verbal communication skills, fosters open communications, listens effectively, and builds strong partnership networks that result in consistent forward momentum; has excellent negotiation skills with an ability to orchestrate change through influence

  • Possesses a logical mindset and is skilled at solving challenges in a directed, methodical manner, analyzing the current issue to envision creative solutions

  • Takes initiative to complete critical tasks, especially in team settings with dependencies on other people

  • Collaborates and openly seeks and shares information across teams and departments

  • Has a solid background in his or her technical field and continually augments experience and skills with the latest research results and techniques

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with Java Development: Java, JavaScript, ExtJS, JSON, AJAX, Spring Framework and MVC, Hibernate, JFC, JDBC, Java debugging

  • Experience with Event based architectures

  • Experience with SOA, Microservices, RESTful APIs

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Experience with fast access and fast compute architectures: In-memory databases and/or data grids

  • Experience with Hybrid Transactional/Analytical Processing (HTAP) technologies and other streaming technologies

  • Experience with Container/Cloud based application design

  • Experience with various version control systems

  • Experience with Junit testing tools

  • Experience with Code review tools

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • 10+ years of diverse work experience in Information Technology with exposure to Financial Services Industry – Options/Clearing preferred

  • 5+ Years of developing architectures (business, data, solution, application, etc.)

Certificates or Licenses:

  • Not required, but a plus
